Lyrics

Got the sweats on my neck and the cobra in my cup.
If you want it you can get it but you’ll have to hurry up.
Cos its friday night and I just had curry
If you want it you can get it but your gonna have to hurry.
Well the lager set the mood for that good curry food.
And it start to make me think
That she might want my dick.
My head starts to spin my gut starts to ache,
She’ll wish she left, I’m bout to end the date.

Cause Ive just shit
Yeah I’ve just shit
All on this bitch
All on this bitch
Cause Ive just shit
Yeah I’ve just shit
All on this bitch
All on this bitch

Now she’s left the building gon’ let everybody know,
That when I have a curry can’t help but explode.
She’s not my girlfriend, I kinda her,
Only wanted to wine dine and 69 her.
She texting all my friends in bulk message load
Shes put on me on blast, Now everybody know.
That I drank to much, I couldnt say no
She went to lick my balls and I shit on the hoe

DJ Grind Interview

April 14, 2009 by precinctphantom

Are you a fan of UK hip hop? Matter of fact, are you a fan of any hip hop? You should definitely check out DJ Grind’s radio show! We catch up with the man himself to talk about Dizzee Rascal, Lethal Bizzle, how Soulja Boy isn’t skilled, but is rather catchy and about what gets played in clubs, and what gets respect on the underground!

DJ Grind, we’ll start with the generic questions! How and why did you first get into being on the decks?

Well I’ve always had love for music, but I got into DJing when I was working in a bar, I was really good friends with the DJ who was doing 4 nights in a row. To cut a long story short, he wanted a night off and asked me if I wanted to do Friday nights, I told him I had no DJ experience, but he said you know music, you’ll be fine. I still say to this day you don’t have to be the best technical DJ to rock a crowd as long as you know what to drop and when to drop it.

Do you have any, kind of emergency records? If you’re at a gig and the crowd isn’t really hyped, what do you drop that gets them moving?

Yeah stacks! But it all depends on the crowd. If it’s a commercial crowd, then you’re

talking about Beyonce’s Crazy in love. Or if it is a really urban crowd then I’ll drop Dizzee Rascal’s Fix Up Look Sharp. But right now I’m doing a lot of college parties and I have a mash up of Arctic Monkey’s Bet That You Look Good On The Dance Floor mashed with Can I Have It Like That by Pharrell. The crowd usually go crazy for that, but the big tune right now for me is Dizzee’s new tune Bonkers!

I think that the whole Dizzee situation is interesting. A lot of real grime heads hated on him for dropping Dance Wiv Me. What’s your stance on that? Are you feeling the more commercial Rascal, or is it still the Boy In Da Corner days that you like?

It’s a bit of both to be honest. There’s no reason that you can’t have both. If you ask anyone that wants to be a rapper or mc what their aim is, if they answer you honestly one of their answers will be to make money. Respect is fine, but people respect money. There are a lot of UK artists out there right now making commercial hits, and people are saying they sold out. But UK hip hop has never been bigger than right now. It’s a good look. Any artist who is a business man will make tracks for the radio/club and tracks for the real fans.

Does UK hip hop get a lot of love at the parties? I can’t imagine people dancing to Jehst and Micall Parknsun, but throw on a bit of Lethal Bizzle or the huge Giggs freestyle, that’ll have people on the floor won’t it?

Yes, definitely, this is what I try to tell up and coming artists that get in contact with me. They send me some real underground hood track, sometimes with amazing lyrics and concepts, but you have to ask yourself, will this get played in a club? We’re a very club orientated culture, I’m a club DJ. People go to a club to enjoy themselves and forget about real life. Club music equals success. If you want to make music that is respected underground music, that’s cool, but don’t expect club or radio airplay!

Are you giving people radio play as well? What station do you broadcast on, and what type of stuff do you get on there?

Yes, but we get sent so much unsigned music it has to be of a very high standard and also we try and tie it in with a release date and/or local shows. I co present The R n G Show on Express FM which is currently the biggest urban specialist show in the south. We broadcast 7-9 on a Friday night so it does tend to be more of a commercial show than underground stuff. On the show we take it to different places throughout. We start with some chilled RnB before moving into commercial hip hop. We finish up the show by going from big club bangers into a funky mix.

Funky seems the way to go for UK artists now! It seems everyone is getting a tune done like it! How are you feeling the whole dubstep and drum n bass scenes at the moment? You’ve definitely got quality people around, Chase & Status are my favourite current producers in that style!

Yeah, I think now people are not so afraid to try new things and experiment. Take Lethal Bizzle, his last album was mostly indie, where his new one will have a real funky edge to it. But yeah, funky is definately the ‘in’ thing at the moment. Whether it will turn out to be a fad like bassline I’m not sure.

You were the 3rd DJ in the world to get the new Go Hard tune by the Bizzle weren’t you? How did you build up such a good relationship with him? He’s a heavy guy, I remember when I saw him live at Norwich last year, he tore the place down!

Yeah for real. I think that I have such a good relationship with certain artists because we try and keep things light hearted. You have to remember how many interviews these guys do, so we just try and have a laugh and let them have fun. Bizzle in particular has been really good to me. He was one of the first artists I ever interviewed, we just kept on good terms, plus he knows how respected the show is in the south by not only listeners but artists as well. I’d say we have a great relationship with 99% of the artists that we’ve met.

Who’s the biggest artist you’ve interviewed on the show?

Damn, that’s so hard to say! I mean the big US names we’ve had include Robin Thicke, Gym Class Heroes, Keri Hilson, Jazmine Sullivan, Soulja Boy, DJ Drama & Clinton Sparks. If I was to name a few. UK artists we’ve had, well, there’s pretty much everyone, Dizzee Rascal, Lethal Bizzle, Kano, Sway, Lemar, N Dubz & Nathan!

Soulja Boy’s first album, I wasn’t a massive fan of to be honest, but the Turn My Swag On tune is one of my favourites right now. Are you a fan of the more dumbed down, party rap that Beezy produces?

Haha! Um can I plead the 5th on that? It’s one of those love/hate things. I can’t stand it but that shit gets stuck in your head. Like his new Kiss You Through The Phone track. Grrrhh! Ha!

Ha! I know exactly what you mean mate! So, have you got any last words then? Anything you’d like to say before we wrap this up, any links to check out?

So much! Don’t forget about my mixtapes! I’m one of the biggest mixtape DJs in the country! Come get at me for that. Don’t forget to check out the show every Friday 7-9 PM. You can find me at www.djgrind.co.uk, www.myspace.com/djgrindmusic and www.djgrind.wordpress.com This is what I’m all about, I’m one of the hardest working guys in the game and I won’t stop until I’ve got what I want. Welcome to 2 thousand & Grind.

Who is Charlie Sloth?

April 13, 2009

Im constantly writing about artists, and how they should be, how they should try and promote themselves. Well take a look at this guy, He’s got the right idea! First of all check his myspace http://www.myspace.com/charliesloth

Then check his vid, this is a little old, but this is how you get DJs attention! Now before i set myself up for a whole bunch of diss records, he’s being clever with what he says, and he’s targeting the industry and not one specific DJ.

I now realise i coulda opened up a whole world of shit for myself! Haha

A message to all young rappers!

April 6, 2009

So recently ive done a few under 18s shows and ive seen a few local MCs perform their stuff, and largely ive been unimpressed with what ive seen.

When a 16 year old walks on stage shouting ‘where da pussy at?’ you know there’s something wrong. Too much MTV Base? Too much Channel U? Or just too much of what we think Hip Hop is all about? Kids (Because they are kids) are easily influenced and lead by what they see, read and hear about, On TV, on the net, by their friends, pretty much anything and everything while influence an adolesent. So if what they see is 50 Cent, Flo Rida or Diddy dressing a certain way, talking a certain way, behaving a certain way, They think it is acceptable for them to do so as well.

Going back to the REAL roots of hip hop, people rapped about what they knew, Whether it was hardship, drugs, violence, or to the lighter hearted side, girls, college, school, partying. It was only once hip hop exploded in the mid/early 90′s that flossin what you had became the big thing, even then it was more about what you could aspire to (Think Biggies ‘Juicy’). Now it is more important to look the part, than what actually comes out of your mouth.

if you are under the age of 16/18 please DO NOT rap about getting paid, Cos your NOT! Im 27 years old been working hard all my life and as far as im concerened im STILL not getting paid. When you are getting paid you have your OWN house, Your OWN car, Your OWN life, and you have no money worries at all. Please DO NOT rap about getting laid, Cos your NOT! A quick fumble behind the bike sheds is not getting laid. In fact even if you are ‘getting laid’ fucking a girl getting her in trouble and abandoning her is NOT what a real man does. In fact any real man doesnt have to brag about getting laid, cos he actually IS!

What i wanna hear from young MCs/Rappers/Artists is real life! Dont be frightened to make a dance track with great punchlines. Dont be frightened to write about how your feeling. Dont be frightened to talk about school or troubles your having at home. But more important than ANYTHING, PLEASE DONT THINK THAT BECAUSE YOU RAP ABOUT BITCHES MONEY AND CARS IT WILL GET YOU SIGNED, IT WONT!!!!

Its boring! Its been done! As i said there’s nothing wrong with a great party track, but be real. Do you honestly believe in your heart of hearts that a music exec of a big multi million pound firm is going to believe your bullshit, And he will know its bullshit, Cos he is ACTUALLY getting laid and paid!!!! Haha. Ask yourself this question, and BE HONEST! Are my lyrics true to myself? Is my flow flawless? Does anyone outside of my clique think im hot? Am i really working as hard as i can? Is there anything i can do to better myself? What makes me different from EVERY OTHER RAPPER OUT THERE!!?? Seriously!!! Think of all the people in your clique, think of how many other groups there are out there, think of how many there are in your city alone, then how many cities there are period. What makes you better than them.

These are questions that every young rapper should ask themselves. Remember NOBODY starts at the top. But its about how far up that ladder you can climb, how hard your willing to work and how exceptional your talent is. Cos without the hard work, talent means nothing. I would rather work with a hard working rapper than a talented lazy rapper, But ideally i love to work with hard working, talented artists.

If right now your thinking to yourself, He doesnt know what the fuck he’s talking about, He’s just some small time DJ. Your right. Seriously. You are. But everything ive got, everywhere ive been, everything ive got, ive worked my ass off for it, and i will continue to do so.

But if you dont believe me, Here’s a few words from the legendary DJ Kay Slay

Please copy and paste the link till i can get the video up!

Is my life worth reading about?

April 2, 2009

OK so i really dont blog as much as i should, its just one of those things where sometimes i really dont feel my life is that intresting, and who would possibly want to read about it and my thoughts?

Then again sometimes my life is so hectic its unreal! But i also try to keep my private life and my ‘DJ’ life very seperate.

So the big thing for me recently was the fact that i had a week off! Yes even the Grind has to have a break sometimes! haha. Seriously, i worked myself so hard not that long ago that i made myself ill for nearly a week. A lot of people advised me that i was over doing it and told me to chill for a bit, so thats what i did! I went to Spain and chilled out for a week. This however is the part that i like to keep personal! I had a great time a lot happened, but thats not for public consumption! Haha.

However before i left, i had an awsome night down in Bournemouth DJing alongside Tinie Tempah, as well as Decyfa & Tempa. Room six was the venue, my first time djing there, i wasnt to sure what to make of it at first as it seemed to be more of a bar. But as soon as the place filled up the crowd soon mate it a crazy night! It so funny how crowds change from town to town and venue to venue, But with the right mix of banging hip hop and some rnb/party for ladies you know i got the crowd jumpin! Tinie came on after me and was heavy! He dropped all the big hits and had the crowd rocking and singing along to all the big ones! If you dont know who Tinie is, get to know! Check the video

So anyway! Im back now, and back on my Grind! Only been back 4 days and its been crazy. I interviewed Grammy nominated Jazmine Sullivan, So you can catch that on this weeks RnG Show (3/4/09 www.expressfm.com 1900 – 2100 GMT) Also UK Funky sensation Donae’o, and that interview will be on the following week.

Got a couple of shows coming up soon, One this Saturday, an Under 18 event at Portsmouth Uni, and the the following Wed at Liquid Portsmouth, again a 16 – 21 event. Not that im complaining but is it just me or are under 18/college nights becoming huge business? Its the kids that know, make and support the music, so that should be our audience i guess!

Right that’ll do for now! Im all blogged out! haha

Oh BTW if any one wants to ‘Pimp my profile’ hit me up!
